Ok randa its week two of the hot singles revival…how are you feeling returning to your throne as the Bicoastal-Knows-At-Least-One-Person-Who-Goes-To-Burning-Mans preeminent matchmaker?
RS
you know it feels good to go bicoastal… i thought i wanted to have an apartment in each city (shoutout bicoastal icon casey) but it turns out a bicoastal newsletter does the trick

That’s funny I find the bi-coastal apartment life, which appears to only exist on a corner of hinge i like to call ‘VC Hinge,’ slightly unnerving. A quick micro list of the worst places to be bi-coastal for me are:
CDMX x NYC
LA x NYC
SF x NYC
My Top 3 are:
London x NYC (this is “big baller”)
NYC x Brooklyn
Philly x NYC (fantasy)

i’ll bite my tongue and let our readers sound off on those picks in the comments. we gotta get to today’s single!
this poet biologist lives in SF but don’t get it twisted … she’s never set foot in a startup office–she works in the actual Field. when she’s not shredding invasive species, you may find her shredding gnar at the beach. she’s lookin for a man who remembers his fav books from childhood…

what’s the last thing you wrote in your notes app?
I send myself texts instead of writing in the notes app and four recent texts-in-succession read:
“Ponto in Carlsbad/SoCal” (a surf spot I’m supposed to check out)
“That’s a ship out at sea my baby mind says to me” (probably half-conscious on a plane)
“It’s the silk rags of clouds floating under the big bellies of other, bigger clouds, highlighting blue blue voids; in my mind I want the word ‘superfluous’ but think of ‘soporific’ instead, extraneous drama of fog streaming up still-darkened ridges” (sky gushing…I confess a frequent occurrence)
“Bread chips cotija ice cream” (raccoon essentials; punctuation irrelevant)
what have you been talking about lately?
I’ve been talking nonstop about Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, a 1974 book by Annie Dillard that chronicles her jaunts around her home in the Blue Ridge mountains stalking muskrats etc. I think it’s because she captures the hilarity of the fact that things that are statistically unlikely yet occur constantly and are troublingly beautiful and ghastly (there’s this punk rock description of a giant water bug sucking the guts out of a frog, for example). Was the giant water bug made in jest? And if not, was it then made in earnest? I can’t stop asking myself.
what is your favorite hangout spot in your city, and why?
I like being in the dunes at Ocean Beach. OB is nice because usually it’s foreboding and cold and blowing grit in your eyes, but sometimes it’ll be tricked out in technicolor with Mt. Tamalpais a lithe silhouette in the north, and the dune grass complementing the sunset. I walked down there after dark with some friends recently, and we tripped into a group of people all with their down jacket hoods on, swearing and laughing at each other and trying to get a fire started, and we asked if we could kick it with them. We never even saw each other’s faces, but it was cozy.
what makes you a good hang?
I’m observant and like to figure out what makes people laugh or how to call back to a prior moment (even if it was just a few moments before) to imbue interactions with meaning. To quote someone I loved who died too young, and whose words guide me: “Conversations are poems – and if they’re not, leave.”
who are you looking for?
I’m looking for a man who remembers a lot about his favorite books from childhood, who isn’t afraid to be exclamatory, and who wants to figure out how to make me laugh. Oh, yeah—and wants to cook (and eat) with me.
