HK: There’s no place to start but this–
RS: that’s right everybody… we’ve gone bicoastal like a horny guy moving cross-country. except in this case i am a late 20s woman who moved from new york to san francisco because i was horny for the beach. anyway, we’re bringing Operation Hang Out And Maybe Kiss to the bay area!! please take a moment to forward this to your bay area friends right now.
…
did you do it?
here’s a subscribe button for them:
HK: Obviously Hot Singles as a project has done wonders for singles in New York but i think this will be your biggest challenge yet…getting people in the bay area laid.
RS: it’s about finding love not getting laid!
HK: With that in mind, I’m pleased to introduce today’s Bay Area Hot Single, the Drippy Drinkmaker. DD is a 3rd generation Oaklander, which means his parents found love in Oakland before most of you freaks were even BORN.
RS: as a bay area food and bev icon, he also happens to know a thing or two about good hangout spots. to think what could have happened if Keith Lee linked with the Drippy Drinkmaker…
HK: Spirited women can get in touch with him by responding to this email or hitting sup@goodhang.org with a message and a photo
who inspires you?
As I write this on the day of my little sister’s 12th birthday, I am really feeling inspired by her confidence as a young person. She has such a strong sense of self, an assertive sassiness, and no fear of talking hella shit. I recently had to go through a compensation renegotiation at work, and so many of the conversations came down to my self worth. I am often much better at advocating for others than I am at advocating for myself, and I think seeing my little sister navigate the complexities of identity and self-expression has been a powerful reminder.
what have you been talking about lately?
Animated films that have penguins in them. Between Surf’s up and Happy Feet, we are talking about some of the best animated films ever. The little penguins from Madagascar are super talented as well. These are all movies with great scores, great messages about valuing friendship, and going for your goals and staying true to yourself in the process. We could learn a lot from those animated penguins across the board.
what is your favorite hangout spot in your city, and why?
As a former bar manager and Bay Area restaurant consultant, I love Buddy in the mission. The food is absolutely amazing. Dark and moody. One of the best wine programs in the city. The Mortadella Sandwich is a joke. The music is always slapping and the Sade shrine in the bathroom is the cherry on top. If you time it right, you can check out an exhibit at their gallery House of Seiko next door which is a transformed Seiko watch repair shop.
what makes you a good hang?
I am a good hang because I have really good parking luck. Truly anytime we go anywhere together, I’ll get a parking spot directly in front every time. I also have a really chill temperament and can get along with lots of different kinds people in lots of settings. Whether checking out a new restaurant, hitting a farmer’s market, a sports ball game, or a shopping spree, I can always find a way to connect with people and show love… and also not have to walk far because of my parking luck.
who are you looking for?
I am looking for a woman who has a positive impact on her community and the people around her. I think the qualities that I admire most in both my mom and my sister is that in any setting at any time they are able to find a way to both fit in and also make themselves known and impact the space positively. I love to learn and am looking to be more active in my activism for social justice initiatives especially pertaining to the Bay Area Food & Beverage scene, and would love a partner in that process as well.
